The Choir returns to the highest quality Sacred Music for its next 2 concerts, both featuring music from the Baroque period. On Saturday 29th October, 7.30 pm, in Wakefield Cathedral they will present ‘Magnificat’ by J S Back, (perhaps the most famous of all church composers), with ‘Mass in C Minor (often called ‘The great C minor Mass’) by Mozart, (perhaps the most famous of all composers). ‘Midsummer Music’ is the final concert this season by the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir and features a variety of music from Mozart to Jerome Kern, Haydn to Eric Whitaker with many points in between. A change of style and a change of venue feature in the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir’s next concert of ‘Springtime Jazz’ to be held in Leeds in ‘The Venue’ at the Leeds College of Music on Saturday 21st May at 7.30 pm. For the second time in recent years the choir moves out of its usual comfort zone and into Jazz and Blues, featuring Will Todd’s ‘Mass in Blue’ and Bob Chilcott’s ‘Little Jazz Mass’. The concert is the first in YPC’s partnership with the College and also features the College’s Jazz ensemble. Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions). A few tickets remain for the Yorkshire Philharmonic’s Annual Christmas Concert in Wakefield Cathedral on Saturday 18th December at 7.30 pm. It will be the usual Christmas fun and of course lots of ‘joining in’. Tickets are still available from the Cathedral Bookshop or Wakefield Tourist Information Centre, but hurry – a phone call should secure them.

‘Messiah’ in Wakefield
The Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir present Handel’s masterpiece in Wakefield Cathedral on Sunday Evening 21 November at 7.30 pm. The new season for the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir begins with a musical celebration based on the ‘Last Night of the Proms’. This will include all the traditional favourites as well as some popular orchestral and choral numbers.
