The Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir

The Choir returns to the highest quality Sacred Music for its next 2 concerts, both featuring music from the Baroque period. On Saturday 29th October, 7.30 pm, in Wakefield Cathedral they will present ‘Magnificat’ by J S Back, (perhaps the most famous of all church composers), with ‘Mass in C Minor (often called ‘The great C minor Mass’) by Mozart, (perhaps the most famous of all composers). For your diary: As a result of how well this was received last year, on Sunday 20th November at 7.30 pm, replacing the Cathedral’s evening worship, the YPC are once more presenting ‘Messiah’, Handel’s choral masterpiece which centres around the first and second comings of Christ. Attending Messiah, annually, usually in the approach to Advent and Christmas, was once a great tradition in this part of the world, that may no longer be generally so, but it can be a moving and blessed experience, so if you haven’t done so for some time, or ever, why not take the opportunity. Tickets will be similarly priced and available soon, watch for a further notice, or order them from Derek or Stephanie ‘in advance’.

‘Midsummer Music’

‘Midsummer Music’ is the final concert this season by the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir and features a variety of music from Mozart to Jerome Kern, Haydn to Eric Whitaker with many points in between. Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir May 2011

A change of style and a change of venue feature in the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir’s next concert of ‘Springtime Jazz’ to be held in Leeds in ‘The Venue’ at the Leeds College of Music on Saturday 21st May at 7.30 pm. For the second time in recent years the choir moves out of its usual comfort zone and into Jazz and Blues, featuring Will Todd’s ‘Mass in Blue’ and Bob Chilcott’s ‘Little Jazz Mass’. The concert is the first in YPC’s partnership with the College and also features the College’s Jazz ensemble. Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions). A few tickets remain for the Yorkshire Philharmonic’s Annual Christmas Concert in Wakefield Cathedral on Saturday 18th December at 7.30 pm. It will be the usual Christmas fun and of course lots of ‘joining in’. ‘Messiah’ in Wakefield

The Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir present Handel’s
masterpiece in Wakefield Cathedral on Sunday Evening 21 November at 7.30 pm. It is a number of years since Messiah was presented in Wakefield and the YPC, in association with the Cathedral Authorities have determined to correct that omission, by doing so in replacement of the Cathedral’s Evening

An afternoon celebrating the life of the Diocese on Sunday 13th June at Nostell Priory. Gates open at 12 noon, bring a picnic. Activities forall ages, Labyrinth, Grassroots Theatre Company, Bouncy Castle, Prayer Tent and displays from Deanery and Diocesan Organisations.

Celebration Eucharist at 2.30 pm with preacher Archbishop Barry Morgan, Archbishop of Wales.

Choral Evensong at 5.00 pm at Wragby Church with Wakefield Cathedral Choir.

The Next YPC Concert

Almost 400 years ago a young man went for a job interview. The job – Master of the Chapel Music at St Mark’s Cathedral in Venice. The man – Claudio Monteverdi. He was mostly known for his non religious music so, to try to impress his would be employers, he took with him a compilation of his few pieces of sacred music which he called his ‘Vespers’. On 27th March at 7.30 pm in Wakefield Cathedral the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir with the 18th Century Sinfonia and 7 young soloists will present a 400th Anniversary performance of ‘Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610’. If you choose to come and share in this unique experience you will hear ‘the richest single work of church music before Bach’. It will be a true ‘Celebration of Early Music’. – Oh, by the way – he got the job! On Sunday 19 July, we were privileged to host the renowned Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir led by conductor Andrew Padmore. Highlights of the evening included Gabriel Fauré’s Agnus Dei, Handel’s Zadok The Priest and John Rutter’s arrangement of When the Saints. There were virtuoso performances from soloists James Jenkins, Maxine Taylor and Dave Clark as well as an unforgettable performance by organist Tom Moore of Christopher Steele’s Dancing Toccata.

Normanton Kids Aloud

Friday the 27th March was a fantastic night for the town of Normanton.

Over 200 people packed into our church to listen to 110 schoolchildren sing about Easter.

Lead by Dave Clark and the All Saints Worship Team the children, from 5 schools around the Normanton area, sang their hearts out to the impressed audience.

The children sang some of their own individual school songs and then came together under the leadership of Dave to produce “a sound pleasing to heaven”

The church did a great job in producing the event too. From the PA/VA, lighting, catering (yes we fed all 110 children), all the “happy helpers” dealing with security and other issues, all worked very hard to make the event a great success, not only for the church and the town, but for GOD.

Some comments about the evening:

“One of our Y2 pupils told her mum that she just didn’t have enough words to be able to say how good it was!! Thanks to everyone who helped out in any way “

“The evening was wonderful, there was such a positive feeling amongst everyone who was there. Bringing the Normanton families together in this way is such an important opportunity. “

“We thought Fridays event went extremely well and was much enjoyed by everyone. Thank you for organising it for us. “
