New Song Worship

Over the next few weeks the worship team will be learning some new songs. To introduce them to the congregation we will be having a New Song Worship on the evening of February 26th at 6.30 pm. Mark it in your diary so that we can all learn them together, and if you want to test a calling to be in the worship team this would be a good introduction. Come along and Worship the Lord sing a new song.

Jane Tomlinson Walk for All

John and Kate Penrose are doing the 26 mile Jane Tomlinson Walk For All on 14th August and are hoping to get sponsors in aid of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal (children and cancer charities). Please let then know if you would like to sponsor them (223893) sponsor forms are also available on the welcome desk. If anyone else is interested in the Walk For All event from Settle there are also 14 and 5 mile walks and you can find details on the website www.walkforall.com.

Summer Camps 2011

Dates for your diary!! Yes it is February already and before we know it Easter will be upon us, therefore it is now the right time to point out two dates for your diary.30th July – 6th August = Faith Camp 26th August – 30th August = Grapevine. Both of these camps provide amazing and uplifting teaching and can be strongly recommended. A number of church families will be attending these camps this year and some will even go to both! Grapevine brochures are available on the welcome desk, and both websites contain all the information you will ever need including speaker details. Wakefield Cathedral filled with the hopes and dreams of 5000 little clay people Five thousand little clay figures will fill Wakefield Cathedral in the first community art project to bring together young and old to share their hopes, dreams and memories. 8th – 10th October, booking forms are very slow at coming in. It is now only four weeks so let’s have your completed forms now which are available on the welcome desk. Please put your booking and deposit in the box provided, book now to avoid disappointment. Paul Alexander and his wife Carol, principal of Mattersey Bible college and renowned conference speaker will lead our studies. The college is also intending to staff our kids groups. Only a month to go!

Open Mic Night Aftershock are hosting an open mic night in Church on Tuesday 20th July from 7.00 – 10.00 pm. Volunteers are needed to help decorate the church with posters etc and also needed on the night to make everything run smoothly. Everyone is invited, food and drink will be provided. The Well – Official Opening

The Well Official Opening by the Bishop of Pontefract – Saturday April 24th @ 10.30 am The official
opening of the Well by the Bishop of Pontefract will include many community figures being in
attendance, and you are invited to visit on the day itself. If a number of people would be willing to
bake/serve drinks on the day, could you please let Cliff know. If you have not yet visited the Well,
this will be an ideal opportunity.

Eggcellent Easter Egg Hunt

After Sunday’s service there will be an ‘Eggstravaganza’ consisting of and Easter Egg Hunt in the Church yard/inside Church (weather depending). Each child will be given half an egg with the task of hunting high and low for the other half. Then both halves can be ‘Eggchanged’ for an ‘Eggcellent’ prize.
See Guy or Jenny at the end of the service to collect your half and prize.

Easter Meditations

This year the young people have been given the responsibility of organising our Easter meditations. It will take the form of a walk around meditation that helps you reflect and interact on Jesus’ ‘Journey on the Cross’. You can participate in this journey anytime you wish between 6.30 pm – 8.00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening in the church. (When you arrive could you please enter the church in a quiet manner).

The Next YPC Concert

Almost 400 years ago a young man went for a job interview. The job – Master of the Chapel Music at St Mark’s Cathedral in Venice. The man – Claudio Monteverdi. He was mostly known for his non religious music so, to try to impress his would be employers, he took with him a compilation of his few pieces of sacred music which he called his ‘Vespers’. On 27th March at 7.30 pm in Wakefield Cathedral the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir with the 18th Century Sinfonia and 7 young soloists will present a 400th Anniversary performance of ‘Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610’. If you choose to come and share in this unique experience you will hear ‘the richest single work of church music before Bach’. It will be a true ‘Celebration of Early Music’. – Oh, by the way – he got the job! Crazy Golf is back!

Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir

On Sunday 19 July, we were privileged to host the renowned Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir led by conductor Andrew Padmore. Highlights of the evening included Gabriel Fauré’s Agnus Dei, Handel’s Zadok The Priest and John Rutter’s arrangement of When the Saints. There were virtuoso performances from soloists James Jenkins, Maxine Taylor and Dave Clark as well as an unforgettable performance by organist Tom Moore of Christopher Steele’s Dancing Toccata.
