Ilwana Project

Dear All, this is a quick update from the Ilwana Project: The Lord God, whom we all pray to, has given us an early Christmas present. After four years of waiting, we have this day got an allotment letter from the government of Kenya for the Morokani School plot. From January 2012, we plan to start mobilizing building materials and to start actual construction work on this property. Thank you all for praying with us through this issue and for being patient with us when nothing seemed to have been happening. May the Lord bless you and Merry Christmas – Njagi.

Dear All, I can’t say how excited I am to hear this! We have prayed and even fasted for many days for God to open the door which was tightly shut. I praise God that he has finally done it. Praise be to his name. Getting this allotment letter before the pending land reforms in January is a pure miracle. As I had already made some of you aware, I am well informed that it is going to become harder to get such a letter from January as the new land commission begins to take shape. Thank you all for praying and having faith in God that thou it tarries, one day it will come. Till the Ilwana people know Him – Peter Muguti.

Thank you for your generous gift of £250.00 raised at your recent Day of Prayer to support the secret children of the persecuted church. With your support, Open Doors is uniquely placed to bring strength and encouragement to Christians in the Middle East, North Africa and other places where faith costs the most. Let me share with you just one example of how lives are being changed. Syria is home to a large community of Iraqi Christian refugees, most of whom cannot legally work or earn an income. Their children are even worse off because they cannot get a proper education. Open Doors works with the local church to give these children a Christian and professional education. Please pray for Christians in Syria and across the Middle East at this time of upheaval, and pray that through the support of Open Doors, many Christians will be empowered to stand firm in some of the most challenging places on earth. Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is the largest Children’s project in the world, run by the Christian charity Samaritan’s Purse. Last year children and adults wrapped and packed around 1.12 million shoe boxes full of gifts and goodies, which were then sent to disadvantaged children across Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. I would like to encourage members of the church to take part and pack a shoe box for a disadvantaged child. Leaflets are now available on the welcome desk and as of next week there will be shoe boxes available to take. Please bring your completed shoe box to church on either 30th October or 6th November. The Well – Update

There will be no coffee morning at The Well next Friday the 14th October, due to the Parish Weekend.

We have put an application in with Natwest Community Force to receive up to £6,000 of funding. It is based on people voting for their favourite projects. Please can I encourage everybody to go onto the website and register and then vote for The Well. The more votes we get the better chance we have of receiving some funding. Mara Update

I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I am fine indeed, and I thank God to continue to strengthen my ministry and bible study groups in the Diocese. At the moment our study bible groups in the Diocese are increasing in number. Our goal is to establish study bible groups from local churches up to the Diocesan level. On Friday last week, I was going to visit bible study groups at Bunda, Isenye and Mugumu on the road I got an accident and my car totally broken but no one injured. That at the moment I am in the process of maintenance. Please pray for me at the moment of bringing back to office. Thanks and be blessed – Revd Can Jacob.

Asda Bus Service

The bus service will run every Thurs in June. It goes from Ripley Court and Wynn Dale to Asda at Glasshoughton and returns an hour or so later.

We also make space available to church family members who would otherwise struggle to get to the shops.

Next month as a trial we will stop by “The Well”.

1) Bunda Bible College, Mara – This is now the main theological training centre for the whole area, but lacks a chapel. It is hoped to raise enough to build a much needed chapel.
2) The Next Step Trust – A day centre for 19+ years with severe and complex needs.

Jacob Oyange – St John’s Cathedral, Mara

Many of you will recall the visit earlier this year of Jacob Oyange, who was Dean of St John’s Cathedral in Mara. He was just finishing a Masters Degree course at Oxford and has since returned to Mara where he has now changed jobs and is the Diocesan Director of Christian Education. He stayed with Judith and I when in Normanton and has kept in touch by email since.

In one of those emails he told us about the bible study groups they were running around the Diocese and that he had found he had to cancel some because when he asked those present ‘who had a bible’ no one raised a hand.

He explained that bibles were too expensive for many people even though they were actually only about £5 each.
I took this detail to PCC who agreed that we should use some of our mission giving to try to alleviate this situation by buying the necessary number of bibles.

After discussion with our own Diosesan Mara representative, Peta Moffatt, who came to talk to PCC herself, we determined the appropriate way of doing this through her and her counterpart in Mara. Jacob informed us as follows:

‘We have 19 Bible study groups in the Diocese of Mara. These groups are in Bunda, Bitaraguru, Wariku, Masinono, Nyamuswa, Tairo, Guta, Nyabehu, Bulamba, Kibara, Karukekere, Butimba, Neruma, Bukima, Iramba, Nyamuswa2, Majengo, Buhemba, and Mugumu.

Each Bible study group has average of 12 students (19×12=228). Thus, the total number of students for Bible study in the Diocese of Mara are 228.’

This week I have received the following email from Jacob:

‘Warm greetings in the name of our Lord jesus Christ. I hope all are fine and your preparing for christmas. Here in the Diocese of Mara, everything are ok. We thank God that, the rain season has now began. and real the climate has changed so much.

We have received the bible funds, and last week we bought bibles ready for distribution. I will let you know each and everything about distribution and how our people will respond. Take our Love gratitude to the PCC of All saints Normanton Parish.May God Bless you so much.

Don and the PCC thought you would all like to be aware of how the direct use of our mission giving policy has so directly helped our christian brothers and sisters in Mara and to celebrate that for such a relatively small outlay, in our terms, so many who have not had opportunity to read and study the Word of God, will now be able to do so in their own language.
