‘Midsummer Music’ is the final concert this season by the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir and features a variety of music from Mozart to Jerome Kern, Haydn to Eric Whitaker with many points in between. Popular music to suit all tastes, with a string quartet and an interval glass of wine, what better way to pass a pleasant summer evening. Saturday 2nd July, 7.30 pm in Wakefield Cathedral. All Saints Normanton – Sunday April 10th 2011, 6 -7 pm. “Empowering a changing generation through God’s unchanging word” A few tickets remain for the Yorkshire Philharmonic’s Annual Christmas Concert in Wakefield Cathedral on Saturday 18th December at 7.30 pm. It will be the usual Christmas fun and of course lots of ‘joining in’. Tickets are still available from the Cathedral Bookshop or Wakefield Tourist Information Centre, but hurry – a phone call should secure them. Dave is now on placement as part of his training so he will not be around as much as usual. ‘Messiah’ in Wakefield The Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir present Handel’s masterpiece in Wakefield Cathedral on Sunday Evening 21 November at 7.30 pm. It is a number of years since Messiah was presented in Wakefield and the YPC, in association with the Cathedral Authorities have determined to correct that omission, by doing so in replacement of the Cathedral’s Evening Worship on that Sunday night. It is some time since you experienced the emotion and thrill [...] Hymn Books We have purchased a new set of Hymn Books for congregational use. Whilst we do not often use them as church they are used constantly by those attending wedding and funerals. The Songs of Fellowship have served well for probably 20years and are getting very dog eared. If you would like your own personal copy of Songs of Fellowship please take one and perhaps make a donation toward the cost of their replacements. The new season for the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir begins with a musical celebration based on the ‘Last Night of the Proms’. This will include all the traditional favourites as well as some popular orchestral and choral numbers. It’s a new venue too – The Queen Elizabeth Hall at the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) on Sunday evening 3rd October, 7.30 pm. Tickets £5.00 each, contact Bob Burgess on 07905096039. All funds raised to help disabled and disadvantaged children. Open Mic Night Aftershock are hosting an open mic night in Church on Tuesday 20th July from 7.00 – 10.00 pm. Volunteers are needed to help decorate the church with posters etc and also needed on the night to make everything run smoothly. Everyone is invited, food and drink will be provided.
