TLG Project Update

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to those who came and helped clear the Parish Rooms last Sunday. Your help was really appreciated! The building work on the Parish Rooms re-ordering will begin Monday 27th June, we apologise for any inconvenience this will cause in the short term, but we will soon have an updated building which we can use to it’s full potential! If you have any questions regarding the works, please speak to Jenny or Gavin.

Lighthouse Group Centre Manager

We delighted to announce that Gav Budby has been appointed our alternative education Centre Manager (Head teacher) after a rigorous interview process. This, at the moment, is a half time post. The other half he will be continuing his youth work and school mentoring. The centre will be based in the parish rooms Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri, afternoons from October this year.

News from the APM 2011

Our churchwardens are Phil Atkinson and John Dracup, Deanery reps are Sally Dinsdale, Sandy Vanstan and Roger Wills, PCC reps are James Parkinson, Jenny Farrall-Bird and Elaine Wells. The meeting focused on the future and in particular the Well involvement with The lighthouse Group, a Christian organisation to bring quality alternative education for those on the brink of exclusion and beyond in High Schools. We now have a partnership with them to provide a part-time service to schools in the Wakefield area. This will build on the already good work that Gav and Jenny are doing with Freeston in mentoring students. We will be advertising for staffing for the centre in the near future. The centre will be based in the Parish Rooms on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons each week during term time. This will mean some reorganising of the Parish Rooms to meet Ofsted requirements for the unit that we are hopeful of getting funding from elsewhere.

The Big Cereal Sale

After next Sunday 3rd April (Mothering Sunday) service there will be a table top sale of cereal. These have kindly been donated by Kellogg’s and the Co-op. All the money raised will go towards the cost of subsidising the Parish Weekend in October. Please come and stock up your cupboards with bargains.

Electoral Roll 2011

Olympics

Bishop’s Lent Appeal 2011

During Lent we will be making a separate collection for the Bishop’s Lent Appeal the money will go to: Bunda Bible College, Mara – This is now the main theological training centre for the whole area, but lacks a chapel. It is hoped to raise enough to build a much needed chapel.
The Next Step Trust – A day centre for 19+ years with severe and complex needs.

Summer Camps 2011

Dates for your diary!! Yes it is February already and before we know it Easter will be upon us, therefore it is now the right time to point out two dates for your diary.30th July – 6th August = Faith Camp 26th August – 30th August = Grapevine. Both of these camps provide amazing and uplifting teaching and can be strongly recommended. A number of church families will be attending these camps this year and some will even go to both! Grapevine brochures are available on the welcome desk, and both websites contain all the information you will ever need including speaker details. You will even save money the earlier you book with the best savings if you book before the end of February. See Guy for more details.

I am delighted to say that Rt Revd. Colin Buchanan will be leading our teaching at Scarborough. Colin was principle of St. John’s Theological College, Nottingham before becoming bishop of Aston and then Woolwich. He is now retired in Leeds.

Church Walking Group

Our next walk is on Saturday 4th December and we will be walking on Ilkley Moor (don’t forget your hat!). Christmas Cards 2010

This year we are suggesting that instead of sending individual Christmas cards everyone signs the large Wakefield Hospice Christmas card on the notice board and then puts a donation for the Hospice in the box provided on the welcome desk.

The Well Funding Update

Praise God that during the past month we have really been blessed and received grants from Normanton Churches Together and The Co-op, the money will be used for the continuation of the project. We have been accepted through to full application stage for a Reaching Communities Lottery Grant, which is fantastic news and an achievement just to get to this stage. Jenny and the Trustees are now working hard on the full submission which has to be in early next year. Please pray that everything falls in place for this application.

Church Walking Group
