Collect for Trinity Sunday. . :
Almighty and Everlasting God

you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir In their early summer concert this year the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir presents the oratorio ‘ELIJAH’ by Mendelssohn, on Saturday 23rd June in Huddersfield Town Hall at 7.30 pm. After ‘Messiah’, ‘ELIJAH’ is perhaps the most popular and well known of the scripture based works and commands large musical forces to do it justice. It tells of the several dramatic incidents in the life of the mighty prophet Elijah (‘he that troubleth Israel’) as recorded in the Old Testament. It begins from his pronouncement of the great drought as Israel’s punishment for disobedience and takes in the raising of the widows son, his dramatic but rather amusing (not for them however!) victory over the prophets of Baal on mount Horeb and the end of the drought, his escape from Jezabel, and finally his journey into heaven by fiery chariot. It’s powerful stuff, and Mendelssohn’s tuneful and often dramatic music and orchestration makes for an inspirational event. Because of the scale of the work it is being performed in Huddersfield Town Hall and you have to get tickets from the box office (01484 223200). It’s a little further to travel than usual but comfortable seats when you get there! (Also watch out for the spectacular brass and voices concert on 14th July—notice soon).
