More Than Gold

“More Than Gold” – The Olympic Torch Relay. The Olympic Torch started is 70 day progression around the UK at Land’s End on Saturday 19th May.

“The Torch Relay sees a flame of light work its way around our nation. Our vision is that the churches around the UK use this as an opportunity to pick up our own torch and run; to bring the light of Christ into our towns and communities and to leave a legacy, so that even when the torch is long gone and the games forgotten, his light shines on through his people.”

We want to share in that vision and if you are prepared to be a “torch bearer” for our prayer relay please could you sign up at the back of church to pray at 7.14 on the day before the torch passes through the area you sign up for. Example:- I have signed for the May 19th section from Land’s End to Plymouth and will pray for this area on the evening of 18th May. If possible choose an area with which you have a connection of some kind. If possible try to find out what is going on in that area and/or what are the needs or concerns of your chosen area. If you are not a computer whizz maybe someone can help you to get some information. Most importantly seek God’s blessing on the area for which you pray, for its population, for its Churches and any events that they will be arranging to coincide with the torch relay. Pray also for the Olympics, for the athletes and the countries from which they come. Pray for harmony and safety and for protection from the crime and exploitation that often accompanies such big events. Pray for the spiritual well-being of our nation and please also pray for our local community and churches. Please sign up now. Kate Penrose.

Healing Ministry

We will offer individual prayer for anyone requesting it from next Sunday. We will be commissioning the Healing team at next Sundays Service. There will be two teams of two in the side chapel after every Worship. Those who have been commissioned with wear a yellow lanyard to show that they have been through training and, I believe, are called to this ministry. There will be people in the congregation who are wearing their lanyards. If you would like prayer you may approach them and they will pray with you in the pews. Please be aware this does not excuse any of us from praying for healing for others, but I believe these people have a specific calling to do so. I would respectfully ask parents to keep an eye on their children and ask them not to run through the side chapel after the worship has finished.

Letter to the Church from Open Doors

A letter has been received from Open Doors. This is what it says:

Thank you for your gift of £150.00 to strengthen Christians in the Arab World. Your support will help us equip believers in the region to stand firm in the face of persecution and be a light to their nations. As the Arab Spring sweeps across North Africa and the Middle East, the future for the church looks increasingly uncertain. Yet in many countries of the Arab World, the church is growing. In this climate, training believers to prepare them to face serious persecution for their faith is vital. Of course, it is because of your prayerful generosity that we are able to provide training and encouragement to believers. So please would you join me in praising God for the privilege of being involved in building his Church in the Arab World, and praying that our brothers and sisters will continue to be a light to their nations at this crucial time.

Your friend and brother, Eddie Lyle CEO Open Doors UK & Ireland.
