On Palm Sunday Evening – 29th March at 7.30pm in Wakefield Cathedral
the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir is presenting Bach’s St. John Passion, in replacement of the Cathedral’s Evening worship. If you want to start Holy Week in a memorable way, come and share in this experience. This is one of the great choral works focussing entirely on the events of Holy Week, as mainly told by the words of St John’s gospel. A ‘Passion’ is probably the nearest you will get to a ‘Concert Version of a Christian Opera’. The sung narration is given to the tenor soloist (evangelist) with other soloists singing the words of all other characters. The choir sings various parts including the mob, the Jewish Authorities, the Roman Soldiers as well as providing the thoughtful interpretative thread through beautiful chorales. The entire work will be sung in English with 5 excellent soloists and full orchestra.
Tickets are £16 (seniors £15) and £13 (seniors £12), under 16’s free. Available from 01924 364862 or online from www.yorksphilchoir.co.uk or the Cathedral Shop, or for the next
week or two see Derek Howell.
