Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir Concert

Posted on

Saturday 15 November at 7.30pm in Wakefield Cathedral
This concert is far more than ‘just music’, combining music, drama and visual art forms. The concert is both a dedication and commemoration. The first half will include Aaron Copland’s ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’, Hubert Parry’s ‘I was Glad’, both the choice of the choir’s former chairman, the late Richard Haigh, to whom the concert is a tribute, as well as the main work ‘Gloria’ by Frances Poulenc, a short 20th century work, full of interest.

The second half is a commemoration of the centenary of the start of WW1, featuring Elgar’s ‘Nimrod’ and ‘The Spirit of England’, his stirring setting of 3 war poems of WW1, by Laurence Binyon. The half will include dramatic input from Dave Clark and Rose Seal and the visual expertise of Jonathan Brennan. So, not only a feast of ‘local’ talent, but a great way to extend your remembrance in this significant year.
